Two top seeds fell on Day 2 (May 7) of the Mandaluyong Mayor’s Cup as action resumed at the Kaban ng Hiyas Auditorium in Mandaluyong City.
Johnny Archer fell to Filipino expat Mario Tolentino by the score of 9-7. Tolentino took six straight racks against the American after falling behind 1-3.
The other big victim was highly fancied local bet Jeffrey de Luna. Alexius Nobleza, a police officer by profession, took his measure in a hill-hill thriller.
De Luna’s Waterloo was a missed carom shot on the 10-ball which he left in the jaws of a corner pocket. Nobleza calmly made a difficult carom shot on the 10-ball to clinch the match,
Other tournament favorites had a much easier going.
Thorsten Hohmann continued his march by beating Raymond Eborda, 9-3. Marlon Manalo beat James Al Ortega, 9-7. Satoshi Kawabata beat Rodolfo Lordan, 9-3. Chung Chien-Te quietly continued to make his mark, beating Leonardo Didal, 9-6.
